The Warriors struggled to make an outside shot in the first quarter. Their response was to get inside and score in the paint. On Friday, they outscored the Pelicans 52-36, despite ranking 28th in this category. Despite the Pelicans taking a 14-point lead after the first quarter, Jamychal Green played well off the bench, including some early dunks that swung momentum.
For the Warriors, bench production has been a roller coaster ride this season. As a result of many players moving in and out of the rotation and injuries, this group is inconsistent. This homestand seems to have given them a sense of identity. With 19 points and a fierce defense against Pelicans star Brandon Ingram, Jonathan Kuminga continues to improve every game.
The Warriors returned to the reliable three-point line when their offense stalled in the fourth quarter. Golden State never looked back after Anthony Lamb, Klay Thompson, and DiVincenzo hit consecutive threes for a 9-1 run. Ingram and CJ McCollum had to work hard for every bucket during the game, especially down the stretch.
